Members of the Contributing Membership community have recently enjoyed these special opportunities:

July 2008 – Star-Spangled Banner Lecture

Members at the Curator level and above were invited to attend a lecture on the Star-Spangled Banner by James Gardner, Associate Director of the National Museum of American History, Behring Center. Dr. Gardner, spoke about the dynamic history of the Star Spangled Banner. Additionally, members were given a sneak peak of the renovation progress of the central core of the museum.

May 2008 – New Members Reception

Smithsonian Contributing Members at the Sponsor level and above who joined this year were invited to a new members’ reception in the Smithsonian Castle. Members were given the opportunity to learn about the history of the Castle and Enid A. Haupt Garden with tours by Curator Rick Stamm and Horticulturist Diana Bramble.

February 2008 – Butterfly Pavilion

Less then a week after its opening, members had the special opportunity of an after-hours visit to the new exhibition Butterflies + Plants: Partners in Evolution at the National Museum of Natural History. Though it was snowing outside, it was balmy in the specially-designed pavilion, home to dozens of butterflies.
